Northwestern's Solar Decathlon team, House by Northwestern (HBN), will compete with teams from 15 other universities from around the world in designing, building, and operating a solar-powered house that is cost-effective, energy-efficient, and attractive.
In fall of 2017, the student teams will showcase their fully-functional, solar-powered houses to the public and provide free tours of their innovative work.
While Northwestern faculty members and industry partners will bring important expertise to the HBN project, students will truly drive it. In addition to competing for $2 million in prize money, teams will gain hands-on experience in architectural design and implementation, engineering, and communications and outreach strategies.
HBN is comprised of Northwestern students from diverse disciplines including engineering, design, sciences, and the arts.
